Burlington Food System Tour

Farm to Table: Burlington’s Food System

Explore Burlington’s local food revolution through the lens of organic farmers, chefs and restaurateurs, and the iconic Intervale landscape and Intervale Center, known for land stewardship and innovative land use practices.  Bonafide Tours guides tell the unique and colorful story of the Burlington Farm to Table movement beginning with the Intervale landscape and its transformation from dumping ground for the city of Burlington to the cherished farms featuring organic vegetables, peaceful trails, hay fields, forest, and conserved landscape of today.    The tour begins at the cascading falls of the Winooski River, and then proceeds to explore up close the farms, people, and scenery of the diverse Intervale landscape.

After exploring farms and fields, visit with chefs who prepare seasonal cuisine from ingredients grown on the Intervale and other local farms, including chefs from Burlington’s popular farm to table restaurants.   Learn how Vermont’s chefs work with farmers to deliver a vibrant culinary experience from the local Vermont food system. This tour is for people who live for great food, and who have an urge to know the story behind the innovative and influential Burlington food system.  The tour is great for all ages, includes a thorough historical, natural, and cultural perspective, and delves into the many facets of the Burlington food scene from the emerging start-ups in the South End, to the ethnic traditions of the Old North End, the classic culinary traditions of Downtown Burlington, and the tasteful artistry of the restaurateurs along the Burlington waterfront.
